INSECT CONTROL
Professionals and amateurs alike can all agree that the best approach to weed control is a healthy lawn. It doesn't happen over night, but with proper care and maintenance your lawn can save you time and money just by being healthy. Insects can wreak havoc on even the heartiest of lawns.
Chinch Bugs can cause a lot of damage in a short period of time. These critters love St. Augustine grass, but will feed on most grasses. They feed on the plants juices through a slender beak. Patches of brown dead grass along sidewalks, buildings, and in direct sunlight areas can often be attributed to the chinch bug. A single female chinch bug can lay upwards of 500 eggs in a two to three week period, hatching up to four generations in a season.
In many areas these bugs have become resistant to pesticides and it may take several applications to rid your lawn of them.
The University of Florida recommends that you:
"Check for chinch bugs by removing the ends of a coffee can, inserting one end into the soil at the margin of suspected damaged areas, and filling with water. Chinch bugs will float to the water surface within five minutes. "
We have found this to be a very effective method for detection of these lawn destroying pests.

Everyone in the Gulf Coast areas know that fire ants are a huge problem for residents. Unlike other ant species the fire ant does not exactly bite. Although we still say we were bitten, fire ants actually sting their victim by clamping down tightly, and injecting an alkaloid venom called solenopsin from their abdomen. The fire ant sting can be very painful and is resistant to water. These pests are also dangerous for pets.
We use TopChoice from Bayer Environmental Sciences in the areas that are approved for its use. A single application done properly can last for a full twelve months. Unlike the older insecticides TopChoice requires far less of its active ingredient fipronil and is safer to use around humans. Residents and business owners are no longer faced with repeat treatments and expenses throughout the summer months.
TopChoice is restricted to use within certain zip codes because it can be toxic to aquatic animals. For more information please visit our TopChoice memorandum.
